WARM WINTER PICTURES
Frei Church was packed when an actor, a fiddler and a singer from the highest division in each genre were on stage Wednesday night.
Dennis Storhøi, Alexander Rybak and Anne Vada are each alone worth the ticket, so the expectations were high. And were they met? Oh yeah, it was a beautiful, evocative and enjoyable session.
The show is called “Vinterbilder”, which combines the stories and Christmas songs with everyday humour and warmth, sincerity and tradition of good mix. “Julekveldsvisa” and “Mitt hjerte alltid vanker” in perfect harmony. There was something for everyone, and everything was fun and deliciously performed.
Actor – Dennis Storhøi is a great stage and film actor, who can communicate in all facets of emotion. He works just as well too as a Viking in a movie, or as a narrator of the Christmas message in the church.
His verbal elements tied together the show. Serious in one moment and more easy-going in the next. And when he performed the American Christmas medley, he was incredibly charming.
Fiddler – Alexander Rybak is a whiz on the fiddle. His personality and stage appeal is so natural and balanced, combined with an ability to move in several genres. He is a joy to experience.
Wild and intense in the “Hungarian Suite” and soft in “Ave Maria”. Dynamic as a singer, he is too. His “Julekveldsvisa” was gorgeous. The humourist Rybak surprised, as the lead singer in Prøysens “Julekveldsvisa”, where he got the men in the audience to sing in the light facet, while the ladies sang in the bass position.
“You are so clever! I think I will move to this place,” was the commentary to the audience, after the singing had resounded with finger pinch on the nose to resemble Prøysens voice.
SINGERS – Anne Vada sings beautifully. Beautiful song, pure, airy and comfortable, warm and strong. She manages to convey moods to the fullest. Her career background is concerts and tours, together with among others, our own Kjetil Bjerkestrand and Rolf Løvland.
Her “Silent Night” was stunning and with an unconventional arrangement with accordion and guitar.
Euphony – Musical director Øistein Lund Olafsen and guitarist Kjell Harald Litang formed, together with good technique, a perfect frame of sound, which reinforced the performers moods of warmth in the winter darkness. Frei church was beautifully lit in winter blue when we arrived, but soon it changed to a warm and welcoming red.
Completely in line with the message: To create a good atmosphere to get warm feeling .
