Some info: Alexander has made an Russian version of his song “Give Me rain”. The title in Russian is “Позади” (pronounced Pozadi, which means “Behind” in English. The music video of the Russian “Behind” you’ll find below.
Sasha, you’ve recently scared your fans with an honest confession: you had been addicted to sleeping pills and antidepressant medication for 11 years! Knowing you as an outstanding artist, it’s hard to believe… Actually, my intention was not to scare my fans but to comfort them (smiling). Because many of them suspected that I had health issues. For the past years I’ve smiled less and less, I’ve moved slowly. I’m sure they are glad I’ve finally pulled myself together.
When did you realise that it’s time to kick your habit? Was there any turning point?
The thing is that for 4 years I’d been trying to figure out why I had bellyache every day, why I couldn’t think properly, enjoy life and even breathe! And when last year I realised that all those struggles came up in between the doses of Diazepam and sleeping pills, I figured my only way hope for a normal life was giving up the pills.
A long awaited jazz concert with Alexander Rybak and Felix Peikli.
A short report from the concert by someone who was present. Playlist and videos from the concert you’ll find below 🙂
Ever since I saw videos from the jazz concert these two brilliant musicians had in 2010, I have waited for a chance to see them live together. And suddenly the festival @Karpedammenscene, supported by Aftenposten, announced the concert, which due to the time of the day they called Jazz Brunch 🙂 And this time I couldn’t let the chance pass by, even if I had to drive for 18 hours in 1,5 day. And it was definitely worth it 🙂
Alexander Rybak has a cameo role as himself in a medley with several other ESC artists in a “dream sequence” in the new Netflix movie.
This post is based on information and texts from several Norwegian newspapers, the Norwegian broadcaster NRK1, Wiwiblogs, The Wrap News and Alexander Rybak. Links at the bottom of the post. Pictures from by Clair Folger/Netflix. Translations by Jorunn Ekre and Tessa La, revision by Anni Jowet
For almost a year Rybak has kept it a secret that he will appear in the Netflix comedy “Eurovision Song Contest:The Story of Fire Saga” with Will Ferrell (52) and Rachel Adams (41). Rybak emphasises that it’s not a big scene he is part of.
In January this year Alexander told his fans that he had his most difficult month so far in his life. He didn’t say why back then, but yesterday he told he has been fighting through hard days to overcome the anxiety and pain that comes from quitting sleep aid. The song “Give Me Rain” express his feelings, hope and will to manage through this hard time. A catchy song with good lyrics. There will be a very special music video for this song, and Alexander will also ask his fans to participate in the video. Thanks for this great and honest song, Alexander and we just say…
KEEP ON DANCIN’!
POSTUPDATE – MUSIC VIDEO RELEASED 12.07.20

Alexander Rybak on Skype in the BelarusianTV-show “Makajonka,9”
Due to the Corona situation concerts and mass events have been cancelled in most countries, and since they no longer can invite guests to the studio, the two hosts in the Belarusian evening TV-show “Makajonka,9” decided to call up the guests they wished for on Skype. And luckily for us Alexander Rybak was one of them 🙂
Just to clarify some facts about the Corona restrictions in Norway since Alexander mentioned the quarantine. In Norway you’ll get 2 weeks quarantine if you have been in contact with someone who is infected or you have been abroad. You’ll have to stay home and are only allowed to go out to do necessary stuff, like buying food. If you are not in quarantine you are still encouraged to stay home, but can actually go wherever you want, whenever you want, as long as you keep 2 meters distance from others.
The interview is translated to English by Anastasia Silakova, who also made the subs, and revised by Anni Jowett.

Alexander Rybak featuring Arad Aria in the song “Bade To” (After You).
Alexander Rybak and Arad Aria(Iranian singer, composer and producer) have collaborated and released the new beautiful song in Farsi called “Bade To”, which translates to “After You”.
Although this music video was actually ready 16 months ago, Arad had to wait for the release licence in Iran, hence the delay. The wait was well worth it, however, as the two artists have provided us with a beautiful piece of art in which Arad sings and illustrates the heartbreak one feels after being abandoned by their love, and Alexander plays the elegant melody on the violin. Alexander Rybak performed at the “Victoriadagen” concert.
“Victoriadagen” (The Victoria Day) is a tribute to Crown Princess Victoria’s birthday. The celebrations usually take place on the island of Öland, where the Swedish Royal family spends their summer holiday. This year Alexander was one of the artists who performed at the concert for the Crown Princess.
Here is a playlist of Alexander’s performances, “Fattig Bonddräng” together with Kalle Moreaus, “Jealous” and “Song From a Secret Garden”.
Alexander also gave a short interview to the “Victoriadagen” Magazine.
How does it feel to perform in Sweden again and this time even for the Swedish Royal Family?
-What I like the most in life is to travel and play together with other people. And finally get to play at Øland (Sweden) for the Crown Princess together with great Swedish artists, is in fact a dream that came true.
-Some Swedes may remember me from the TV-show “Let’s Dance”, but most of my career has not been about dance but about violin play. I am still practising 3-4 hours per day to develop my talent.
What other career plans do you have in addition to perform at the “Victoriadagen”?
-In Norway it is soon the premier of my own musical, which is based on my children’s book “Trolle”. I like to work with children and have had the pleasure to take part in several music seminars in Sweden, where I have tried to inspire children and show them new ways of playing and experience music genres.
Tell us about your new song.
-My latest song I have called “Mamma” (Mom), because it is written for my Mom, but I’m not sure if that is the right song for the Crown Princess’s birthday. I will perform something special for both the Crown Princess and the audience in Borgholm.
«A newly operated Alexander Rybak tells us how important everyday flirting is, about his extreme control needs and why he doesn’t always smile when someone wants to take a selfie with him.»
Alexander interviewed for the first time after his surgery of his tonsils. Michael Andreassen knows Alexander well from many earlier interviews and together with Ari Behn, with his philosophic inputs, they gave us a bit different and warm interview.
