I went to visit the grandmother of Sasha Rybak, a charming Norwegian guy with Belarusian roots, who wasn’t famous when waking up that day, but he was when falling asleep on the night of his triumphant victory with the piercing song Fairytale at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 in Moscow. Maya Borisovna watched her grandson’s performance on television exactly in this apartment on Chernyakhovsky Avenue in Vitebsk, along with her sister Natasha, and … she is thinking back now:
Alexander Rybak’s group Milki, which he created specifically with the intentions of competing in “Eurovision-2015”, will continue its existence. Although the girls won’t be representing Belarus at the prestigious music contest, the Norwegian singer is already preparing a second song for this team of girls.
Yesterday, the National Culture Palace,“Ukraine”, held a huge Christmas/New Year show with the participation of many of the best stage stars. During the show, Alexander Rybak gave us an exclusive interview.
The performance of the song on the opening show can now be watched here

Norwegian parents over-praise their children.
What happens when these youngsters grow up and the applause dies down?

An article in VG Weekend 1.11.2014 writes about the issue regarding how many parents praise their children too often, and discusses the problems these “Golden Children” may face once they grow up. Alexander is one of the celebrities who is asked for his opinion concerning this subject. Here’s what he said:
Rybak’s “girls” arranged a white-red-white photo session.
“Belteleradiokompania” has stopped accepting applications onNovember 21 from the participants in the Eurovision 2015 national selection.
We will find out at the beginning of December who will make it to the finals. For now, musicians have been furtively sending packages with documents and recorded songs to the organizing committee. Alexander Rybak openly plans to conquer not just Belarusians but all of Europe.
Onliner.by attended the music group photo session, and found out from the Eurovision 2009 winner what the song will be about and how they plan to surprise the jury and the audience.
Alexander Rybak is back – Namely in Malta! Franklin Calleja who has already been present at the preliminary decision for Copenhagen will sing a Rybak-ballad next weekend with the aim to travel to Vienna in May 2015: “Still here” is a classical ESC-ballad which in the course of three minutes rises to a big climax. We certainly want to know how that the Rybak-Calleja-Connection came about.
Alexander Rybak, who was recently traveling around and auditioning in Belarus, has picked his girl band, which will compete for the right to travel to Eurovision 2015. On his FaceBook page, the musician has posted a video where he announced the names of the winners. “Znamenka” found out the girls’ reactions to the news, how they made it into Rybak’s quintet and also what they will have to go through to make their dreams come true.
Alexander Rybak will take part in the national selection for ESC in Belarus as a composer with the song “My accent”. The song will be performed by a girl band, and Alexander has been in Belarus for some days to have auditions in 4 cities across the country: Mogilev, Minsk, Grodno and Brest. There has been a lot of interest both for the auditions and from the media, and Alexander has been on several morning TV-shows, and radio shows, and given many interviews. Our Russians translators are the case. 🙂
Here is an English version of the interview in the TV-show “Morning. Studio of Good Mood” on channel CTV.

Alexander Rybak is in an active searching process. No, the winner of “Eurovision-2009” has no plans to look for his ladylove. This time, all thoughts of the 28-year-old musician are dedicated entirely to his new projects: the other day, he announced the all-Belarusian casting for a new girl band. Newfound Norwegian Meladze (a famous Ukrainian composer and producer) and his team will personally tour around cities and villages to find the most beautiful and strong-voiced Belarusian girls. In addition to Rybak’s patronage, these girls are promised one more substantial stake: this spring, the new girl band will go to Vienna to conquer the sixtieth anniversary of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2015”.
Alexander Rybak is working on his biggest project ever. A story about a troll who plays violin and hide in the forest.
– The freedom to do what I want, is both the best and the worst, says the still single artist.
Text to the main photo: Home-loving: – Nesodden means two things for me. Family and Thomas. They are two important factors in my identity. Mom and Dad reminds me of how ambitious I am, while Thomas reminds me how great guy I am, and how much fun I can have with a best friend.
ON THE DOOR BELL PANEL on Bryggetorget at Aker Brygge there is no “Alexander Rybak”. A Russian-sounding name is, so I try that one, but no one opens the door. Then comes the 28-year-old with long strides across the town square. Tall and dark and slender and handsome, with a brown McDonalds bag in his hand.
– I removed the nameplate because there were so many people ringing the bell, he explains.
The musician Alexander Rybak (28) has his debut as a host on the radio NRK Klassisk tomorrow morning at 9 am. He will be on TV in “The Hit” on NRK in October.

What will it be like to be a host in “Min Favorittmusikk” (My favourite Music) on NRK Klassisk? -This is the perfect programme for me where I can try out the role as a host. It’s classical music, my audience get to know me through new stories and I have enough time to prepare each programme.
Is it the classical music that is closest to your heart? -It’s the music I grew up with. I notice when pop composers are educated in classical music, and when they just try out stuff without any background. Big difference.

Alexander Rybak has mastered the PlayStation of metallurgists.
Alexander Rybak has mastered the PlayStation of white metallurgists and found where the iPad is sharpened. Recently the winner of “Eurovision” visited the educational centre of CTRP (Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant), where he had a tour and even got to sit at a student desk. However the musician and singer still doesn’t wish to learn the profession of metallurgist while noting: “But I’m glad they (metallurgists) exist.” And the educational centre, Alexander Rybak compared it to “Jurassic Park”, “I see that many doors are closed to us, it is exactly like in Jurassic Park. If suddenly the electricity stops working here, then suddenly all the doors will open and all the students will run to us. “
Moscow. The end of June. It is + 10 C on the street. Alexander Rybak came to the meeting in a thin T-shirt. “We had snow in Norway two weeks ago, so I am used to the cold”. He has also got used to the constant attention which falls on him after winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Since then five years have passed and Alexander has written a lot of songs and travelled to almost 70 countries. And now he is reaping the benefits of his success – Rybak is the composer of a soundtrack on the popular Hollywood cartoon “How to Train Dragon 2”, and can be proud of it!

Sasha, how did it happen that you entered into Hollywood so elegantly? Did the producers invite you?
Nobody invited me. I just wrote a song and realised that it is perfect for the animation. I’ve worked on the first and second parts of the animation for Norway (main hero Hiccup speaks with voice of Alexander). At my own expense I rented a studio, recorded the melody and sent it to the company “DreamWorks” although only 2.5 months remained prior to the international release of the animation. I knew that I had little chance, they may not even want to hear my song. Especially the Americans, it means nothing to them. And suddenly the answer is: “Of course, Alexander, we know who you are”. I was delighted, although they also wrote that everything was ready, and there was no need for the song, but they certainly will listen my melody. I decided not to wait for the outcome, I was just happy and considered it like a personal victory – the main thing I took a chance. However, after a week and a half they called me and said that the composition is very nice, and in spite of the late terms, they want to use the song. In the end I felt happy, and my song plays in the final credits of the animation. In some countries it is released on the soundtrack disc. The compositions of John Powell are gathered there, and my song is the last track. Continue reading Interview with Alexander in the Russian weekly magazine “OK!”, 03.07.2014→
“I’m an old talent” – Alexander Rybak interviewed by Eurovision.be 29.06.2014.

Alexander Rybak : “I’m an old talent”
Five years after his victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, Alexander Rybak tours again around Europe. This time to promote the movie “How to Train Your Dragon 2″, and his song on the soundtrack “Into a Fantasy”. The Eurovision victory was the beginning of everything. “Fairytale” is my business card, “says the 28-year-old singer.
“In countries where I am not so well known, people point at me and sing “Fairytale” without knowing my name. The song is more famous than I am, but I find that good.” The classically trained musician just wanted to escape from classical music when he won the Eurovision Song Contest. He looks back with satisfaction to his victory, but remains very calm underneath: “In this business you need to be happy with the chances you get and stay loyal to yourself.” Continue reading Alexander Rybak — Interview on Eurovision.be about “Into a Fantasy”→

The people in Valdres love Alexander Rybak. And the feelings are mutual.
– I’ve been here on Valdres Sommersymfoni since I was … well … 12 years, maybe? Says Alexander Rybak, who gathered a large audience for an outdoor concert in the centre of Fagernes.
Even in a hectic program, he found time for this concert at Fagernes. Rybak flew in from Ukraine the day before, played in Oslo, then Fagernes, and went straight from Fagernes to Moscow as the next destination.

Alexander and the Dragon
Alexander Rybak likes “Taken” and “Fatso” and dreams of a blockbuster movie about Ole Bull with himself in the main role. Now he is of current movie interest as the Norwegian voice of Hikken in “How to Train Your Dragon – 2”. We fired off some questions about dragons and other stuff.
– Hi Alexander! What do you think of Hikken? Tell us a bit about the similarities and differences between you and him.
– We both enjoy overdoing facial expressions and both have cow eyes. But Hikken stutters a lot more because he is spontaneous. I think through every word I say. And that`s both an advantage and a disadvantage when you`re dubbing a movie, I often have to put on a different hat and step into the role a 100 %.
We had a guest on our balcony – the winner of “Eurovision”, Alexander Rybak.
We were visited today by Alexander Rybak, the winner of “Eurovision – 2009”. Sasha is not a rare visitor in the capital of Ukraine, but we met for the first time. Vgorode took the opportunity to ask some questions. In particular we asked about Alexander’s favourite places in Kiev and about Maidan. The musician told us that he loves Kiev for the fact that, despite its status of metropolis, it is still a colourful and green city, it is not dusty like many other cities.

Alexander Rybak still sings about dreams, fantasies and adventures – with a rather familiar tone.
