Tearful and welcome pre-Christmas tradition in Eidsberg Church.
Crowded bench rows and an audience moved to tears, testified that the 25 year old Christmas concert, “Stille Natt Hellige Natt” is a welcome pre-Christmas tradition to many people.
Alexander Rybak, Tor Endresen, Elisabeth Andreassen, Marian Aas Hansen and Rune Larsen. It was the real team of star artists that Saturday afternoon, that made people attend the musical experience experience in Eidsberg church.
The pre-Christmas concert is a 25 year old tradition, and part of an entire Christmas tour. It is “Strømmestiftelsen”, who works with developmental assistance in developing countries, who is behind this nationwide event. Eidsberg church was filled to the brim on saturday, so there is no doubt there will be a good income from the tickets.
Familiar Christmas repertoire
Any pre-Christmas concert with respect for itself, contains a series of songs that are almost mandatory. “Deilig er jorden”, “Stille Natt”, or “Glade Jul” and “O, Helga Natt!” This was also the case in Eidsberg church, but the artists had, in addition, also selected several numbers that are not primarily carols. However, Rune Larsen pointed out that many of them still have a typical Christmas message as a theme. That legitimized Tor Endresen’s performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, which perhaps primarily is associated with the football club, “Liverpool Supporters”. But the most tears were shed among the audience, when Elisabeth Andreassen sang “Gabriella’s song” from the Swedish film “Så som i himmelen”.
The audience was very pleased with the concert and gave several sixes on “Smaalenenes Avis’s “ public dice. The charmer Alexander Rybak, was clearly the most popular among the younger part of the audience, while grown up ladies gave Tor Endresen’s version of “O Helga Natt!” as the reason why they had taken the trip to Eidsberg church this cold pre-christmas day
