Melodies in the sign of joy
It was the violin virtuoso Alexander Rybak who got the biggest hold on the audience`s heart during the Christmas concert at Tønsberg cathedral last night.
The applause was never ending after his Norwegian/Belorussian Version of “ Vi Tenner Våre Lykter”. The 27 year old winner of the Eurovision Song Contest will soon top our national hero Arve Tellefsen.
The mother of all Christmas concerts “Stille Natt Hellige Natt” was the first to tour in the pre-Christmas time to calm down and give the audience a dose of Christmas mood in the time when the cash registers get overheated and when sorrow and joy are enhanced.
After 26 years on the road the concert has become a great tradition. A string of well-known artists have contributed. This year like last year it`s Rune Larsen, Elisabeth Andreassen, Marian Aas Hansen, Tor Endresen and Alexander Rybak who are visiting churches all over the southern part of Norway.
Tønsberg cathedral was sold out when the artists spread their happy gospel in their own way.
A little humour from Bergen with words uttered by children made people laugh. Some people felt this didn`t go well together with the rest of the wonderful program.
The best was saved for last as usual, which was the performance of “O Holy Night”.
The audience sat solemnly and let the powerful music warm their bodies and souls on this year`s almost darkest day.
