Dream meeting of Eurovision Legends: A Fan report

A fan report: Dream meeting of Eurovision legends.

Don’t…
Don’t close your heart to how you feel…
Dream…
And don’t be afraid the dream’s not real…

Alexander Rybak and Johnny Logan took part in the season final of “Allsang på Grensen”, recorded 9. August 2017 at Fredriksten Festning, Halden, Norway.

Anni  from the U.K, explains why she was very excited to be there …

As a young girl I watched the Eurovision Song Contest and was captivated by the smooth, gentle voice and face of a charming Irishman with steely blue eyes. I was completely in love, what’s another year?  Well I had to wait another seven before he could hold me now, once more! But this man, dressed in white is who ignited my passion for the Eurovision Song Contest. Why me? I guess I just adore tall men with musicality, a talent to entertain and sweep us off our feet. Many years passed, every year I’d watch ESC dreaming of another Johnny Logan.

Then one day out of the blue, 22 years later, my fairytale came true. A young man set the Eurovision stage on fire again for me. A young man with many, many strings to his bow and chocolate coloured eyes that if you look directly into… you literally drown (-you have been officially warned). Alexander Rybak sparkled and captured many of the hearts in Europe including my own, just as Johnny did years ago when he was younger!

At that point in my life I’d never travelled abroad alone. I couldn’t speak or understand a word of Norwegian. Now times have changed og det har jeg også and these days I’m totally addicted to flying over Europe skies any chance I get. (In fact my first solo flight was SAS from Heathrow terminal three, flight was on time!)

So on 9th July 2017 my two “worlds” collided, sparks flew and my dream came true, Both Johnny Logan and Alexander Rybak were guest artists on Norwegian TV summer show Allsang på Grensen. Now, that alone would have been enough to completely blow my mind but they actually performed TOGETHER. And I was in the audience for the recording in Norway. I also had the fabulous opportunity and great privilege to get a photo “sandwich” and a chat with both of them together before the show. We were blessed with fantastic seats for the performance, which meant a couple of times during the recording Johnny stood right in front of me, singing straight into my doting eyes, something I will remember forever and a day.  Alexander looked utterly handsome as he first entered the stage, smiling broadly, dressed completely in black, (carrying an umbrella to protect his violin from the rain). He made my legs go a little weak at the knees, good job I was sitting down.  The opening song was a Eurovision medley, Johnny Logan sang the start of Fairytale with Mr Rybak on violin, and Alexander Rybak sang in a duet with Mr Logan on “Hold me now “. At the end of the show Alexander returned to the stage with his violin accompaniment to Johnny singing “You Raise me up”   The show was incredibly fun to be part of the audience, the other artists on stage that night along with Alexander Rybak and Johnny Logan,  were D.D.E.,  Anita Skorgan, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Reidun Sæther Espen Grjotheim, John Brungot, Emil Solli-Tangen, among others. Every artist had a great interaction with the audience.   Sometimes in TV recordings they have to record a retake, and to my absolute joy they took a second take on both “You Raise me up” and the Eurovision medley (that opened the show) at the end of the evening. The rain had been persistent all day, but it didn’t dampen our spirits, and luckily the rain held off during the recording, and the sun was shining in our smiles. They both got my heart, when they raised me up to stand on the Fredriksten Fortress and I have a memory that will stay with me forever, in love. I think these words are more than enough.

Tusen hjertelig takk til Allsang på Grensen, artists and crew  who helped my dreams come true. “It is What it is” real life “Fairytales”.
